55 km from the hotel Prategiano in Tuscany Maremma: Grosseto is Maremma's main town and stretches along the Ombrone river valley near the coast. This town developped later than most of the other ancient Maremma villages.  Presumably, it dates back to 935 when Roselle was fully destroyed by the Saracene pirates.

It is the perfect combination for those who want to enjoy the hinterland, while remaining close to the coast. The development of the city, compared to many villages present in Maremma, is the latest in fact the first document in which it is mentioned is the 953, when Roselle was destroyed by the Saracens. The old part of town is surrounded by the Medici walls, whose conditions are still perfect. In addition to the walls, the city is full of historical monuments such as: The Cathedral of San Lorenzo and Cathedral of Grosseto, the Church of San Francesco, located in the square; The Abbey of San Pancrazio al Fango, located almost in the center of Diaccia Botrona Nature Reserve, a protected area characterized by marshy environment that refers to the history of the Maremma itself; Aldobrandeschi Palace, also known as Piazza Dante Piazza Chain and Hundred Breeding Quadrupedi, which was originally a hunting lodge Granducale that after the unification of Italy in the hands of the Italian Army step.

The old city center is very characteristic, enclosed by the Medicean walls that still keep their original shape. What's more, an extended pedestrian area makes this town particularly appealing and people-friendly.
